Adult Clay Classes

Altering Wheel-Thrown Pottery(Age 14+)

You know the proper techniques for throwing a bowl, a cup, and other forms on the wheel; now let’s find a way to alter those forms! Darting, fluting, pinching, and paddling are just some of the techniques we will be using in this class. This class is for individuals who have taken at least 1 Beginning Wheel Class.

Glaze Techniques (Age 14+)

Work on new methods of applying glaze to your work to get the most out of the surface.  Learn how to apply in multiple ways, how to apply single and multiple glazes, and how to compose the work you make.  Please have 4-8 pieces of bisque ware ready for the beginning of this class. This class is for individuals who have taken 1 or more ceramic classes.

Throwing on the Wheel Beginning Wheel (Age 14+)

This class is an introduction to working with clay on the potter’s wheel.  You will learn the basic techniques of working with clay and explore various forms, such as bowls, mugs, and vases.  This class is for individuals with little to no experience.

Raku (Age 14+)

Explore a range of glazes on your works while firing the very hot and fun raku kiln. This 700 year old Japanese technique has kept ceramists excited for centuries and will be sure to provide you with tons of fun as well. This class is for individuals with little to no experience, but still offers new information for those with experience.

Portrait Bust (Age 14+)

In this class we will use the eight weeks to sculpt a portrait bust. Create a self-portrait, a portrait of a friend, or make up a face from your imagination. Students who took the previous Facial Features course may want to bring in the pieces they made to use for reference.
Some experience with clay required.

Dinnerware (Age 11+)

Take an in depth journey, learning a variety of techniques to make hand built or wheel thrown cups, bowls, plates and serving dishes. This class will cover many techniques; in the end you will have a set of your very own – with your own unique style
Previous experience required.

Intro to Glass Fusing (Age 14+)

This is an introductory class in glass fusing. You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing: cutting glass, laying it out in creative ways, and fusing it together to create unique designs and projects. No glass experience is required.

Glass for Everyone (Age 14+)

This is a class for any level.  During the first six weeks we will concentrate on the basics of glass fusing (cutting and firing temperatures) and different techniques of decorating glass while creating small projects.  The last two weeks will be for larger projects of your choosing. 
No glass experience is required.

Advanced/Intermediate Glass Fusing (Age 14+)

This class is for self-motivated students who have several projects in mind.  Infuse new life into your slumped forms through new techniques, such as frit casting and liquid stringers.  Explore new slumping techniques that will make your projects truly your own.  
Fusing and slumping experience is required.

Saturday One-Days (Ages 5+)

*Living Social Vouchers must be phoned in to register for any workshop.

*Work from classes and workshops will be finished and ready to be picked up 2 weeks after the finish of the class.

 

Mom and Me Make Stuff

Make fun stuff with your Mom and celebrate Mother's Day with art!

**kids ages 8 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult**
