Adult Clay Classes

Beginning Wheel (Age 16+)

This class is an introduction to working with clay on the potter's wheel. You will learn the basic techniques of working on a wheel and explore various forms, such as bowls, mugs, and vases. You will also be introduced to some decorating techniques with slips, oxides, and glazes in the high-fire gas kiln. Wear old clothes and bring a one-gallon bucket, a towel, and a basic pottery tool kit*. Tuition includes one bag of clay, glaze materials, open studio time, and some firing costs. This class is for individuals with little to no experience.

Intermediate Wheel (Age 16+)

Go more in-depth into making work on the potter's wheel. Learn to throw larger and more complex forms and develop your skills. This class is meant for individuals with previous wheel experience.

Italian Majolica (age 16+)

Have lots of fun learning about a great European pottery tradition, majolica! Explore the rich process of this colorful and expressive glazing and decorating technique that has been around for centuries. Majolica is a process that begins with a white glaze over smooth, red terra cotta clay and is then decorated with intense pigments, similar to watercolor. This class is designed for both the beginner and experienced student.

Projects in Clay (Age 16+)

Explore a variety of thrown and hand building techniques to create a series of unique and specific projects. We will concentrate on making functional objects that can be used every day. Regular demonstrations will be given and you will be encouraged to develop your own style within each project. Through the completion of this series of projects, you will learn a new range of construction and decoration techniques which you will be able to take on to any other work you choose to make later. Bring a small bucket and basic pottery tool kit*. Tuition includes one bag of clay, glaze materials, open studio time, and some firing costs. This class is designed for both the beginner and experienced student.

Hand-Building: Slabs and Coils (Age 16+)

A great course on hand-building - utilize a variety of molds and other support structures in conjunction with slabs and coils. This is a class great for beginners but still offers new information for those with experience.

Topics: Crystalline Glazing (Age 16+)

This is a 8-week class so you may learn about crystalline glazing techniques and what makes these special glazes tick.  You will work with porcelain and fire in the electric kiln.  This type of glazing will be done only within the context of special classes offered such as this one.  This class is designed for individuals with some experience.

Glass Classes

Beginning Glass Fusing

This is an introductory class in glass fusing. You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing: cutting glass, laying it out in creative ways, and fusing it together to create unique designs and projects. You will learn how to use a wide variety of glass materials including frit, stringers, confetti, and flat glass. You will have the freedom to make small jewelry pieces, window art, magnets, and holiday ornaments. No glass experience is required.

Topics: Imagery on Glass (Age 16+)

Create artworks on glass using photo transfer decals of your original artwork, glass powders, frits and stringers. Learn techniques to create wonderful one-of-a-kind display pieces. No glass experience is necessary, glass cutitng experience is helpful.

  Fusing and Slumping (Age 16+)

Learn about fusing and slumping your glass projects into colorful and usable trays, bowls, and decorative objects.  You will work with larger pieces of glass with more space to compose and design with color.  Molds will be provided and new techniques will be discussed.  Fusing experience is required.

Kids Clay Classes

Glass Fusing for Teens (Age 13+)

Come join the fun as you learn how to work with kiln fired glass. You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing. Students will learn to cut glass, lay it out in creative patterns , and then fuse it together in a kiln to create your own designs. We will explore color theory and use what we learn to get the most out of our glass creations. You will take home several fused pieces. No glass experience is required .

Snowman Toolkit -Create all the parts you need but can’t find to make a truly unique snowman.  Create your own eyes, nose, mouth and buttons out of clay.  We’ll fire them and you can stick them into the next snowman you make!   A great activity for both adults and kids (ages 5 and up).**kids ages 8 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult**
